Big Tune

You ain’t hear de big tune?
Miss Leary little girl
The one with the thin foot
And the big head,
Well not just the head big now, you know.
The child, she growing big and nice
She in big school now
Where boys does wear de long pants
She playing on the school team, tennis and netball
She join all the sports after school —
You know she was always a tomboy, that one
In her own little world since she small
When the neighbour girls taunt and teasin’
“You mammy leave you
Coz you so ugly”
But nah man
She turning pretty now, man

Not just the long pants boys watching
When she running up and down the court
With the long legs in the short skirts
And the little buds dem poppin’ up
Under the lil vest-shirts,
She growing into the big face too
About time ent, well yes
She looking nice nice
She bright too, with the big head
It have plenty brains inside there
She getting top of the class
Award and ting…
She mouth too, it use to be big
But I find she quiet quiet now
She only have little things to say
She don’t come outside no more
And old Miss Leary she happy de child studious
She eyes not too good these days
Maybe that is why she still talking big
Bout child potential and laughing
At the other children on the block
Dem is stupidies!
Only she girl know what she about…
Miss Leary better hush
And get quiet quiet too
Like she little gran with the thin foot
Coz she and she cokey eye
Not seeing what everybody else
Done whispering bout
She will learn though, too late
That when you small still
But feel you big
Is when you does pick up big thing
And big belly too.
